Compare the written estimate, every saved change or approval, and the final invoice as separate stages. A higher total alone does not explain what changed.

Documents and fields to check

Save the initial written estimate and its date.Save each revised estimate, work order, text, email, or dated phone note.Identify parts, labor, quantities, rates, shop supplies, taxes, and other fees.Mark every item added, removed, renamed, or changed in amount.Match added or changed work to the approval record you saved.Open the original source again before discussing or sharing a conclusion.
